DAY 38: Homeless in Our Community

He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done. – Proverbs 19:17

Often they go unseen, yet they are in our community nonetheless! I am speaking of the homeless. According to the 2020 Census, El Dorado had a population of 17,063 people. However, no doubt there were people who were missed because they are homeless. Recently I was painfully aware of this fact. Twice in August when on my way to Healthworks at 5:00 a.m., I saw one person sleeping on a bench and another on a broken-down old chair. You just don’t see two people sleeping outside at 5:00 a.m. unless they are homeless.

Almighty and most merciful God help us to open our eyes to the homeless that are in our community in such a way that we will do for them what we can. We remember before you all poor and neglected persons whom it would be easy for us to forget: the destitute, the old and the sick, and all who have none to care for them. Help us to heal those who are broken in body or spirit, and to turn their sorrow into joy. In Jesus Amen.
