DAY 40: Local, Specific Concerns (Prayer Walk)

DAY 40: Local, Specific Concerns (Prayer Walk)

“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16

A city of 18,000 has specific, local concerns just as the city of 180,000. Just because we’re smaller isn’t an issue to our Heavenly Father. He hears our “fervent, effectual” prayers. Just persevere. Keep talking to Him!

Lord our Strength, please grant us the perseverance we need to continue the work to improve our city. Help us to keep pressing on. We thank You for Your strength. Amen.

DAY 39: Addicts and their Families

39

DAY 39: Addicts and their Families

Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart.” – Psalm 107:13-14

Addiction is no respecter of persons. Anyone can become an addict to damaging behaviors. It feels like being in chains and darkness with no hope of escape. It also damages everyone around the person who is an addict; family, friends, co-workers, other drivers… We pray today for the active addict, recovering addicts and all those affected by addiction.

Father, hear our cry. There are many in our community chained by addiction. They do and say things they would never do sober. Please help them to turn toward you. Hold those who have loved ones in active addiction. Give them freedom too. Restore all to your blessed peace and freedom. Grant them life. We pray in Jesus, who burst the bonds of death.

DAY 38: Homeless in Our Community

38

DAY 38: Homeless in Our Community

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, the Father of compassion and God of all encouragement. He encourages us in every trouble, so that we may be able to encourage those who are in any trouble, through the very encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged by God.” – 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Jesus said the poor would always be with us, but what are we to do? We care, we share, and we encourage. Jesus told us that as we care for those in times of need and trouble, we demonstrate love for Him. This means so much more than just throwing money at an uncomfortable problem. Behind the problem is a person that needs love and connection and encouragement. We have all been down at some point in our lives. May we be a people who show the same love and encouragement that we ourselves have been shown.

Father God, this world is a difficult place. Thank you for your Son, Jesus, who was the perfect example of showing love and encouragement. Help us to have compassion like you, and to share your comfort and encouragement with those who have no place to lay their head. May we glorify Your Name by loving humankind well. In the Holy Name of Yeshua we pray, Amen!

DAY 37: Praise for Our Freedoms and Liberties

37

DAY 37: Praise for Our Freedoms and Liberties

But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. James 1:25

When we look at our freedoms and liberties in this country, we should praise God daily for them.

Lord we praise your holy name. We praise and thank you for allowing us to live in a nation blessed with freedom and liberty. Help us to acknowledge and understand the sacrifices that have been made on our behalf, and never take those sacrifices for granted. Lord, please continue to bless our nation and help us return it to being “one nation under God”. In the precious name of Jesus, we ask these things. Amen.

DAY 36: Abused and the Abusive

36

DAY 36: Abused and the Abusive

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. – Psalm 147:3

Today we are mindful of people who have been abused. Those who have suffered abuse are often filled with shame, fear, anger and hopelessness brought about by the abuse. We need to provide a safe place for them to heal.

Father, we pray for the abused. Those who are isolated, silenced, hurting and scared. We ask that you help them find courage and strength to ask for help. We know that only you have the power to heal them completely. Please use us as your instruments to lovingly care for them as they heal. Lord, we also pray for their abusers. You who are the true light, we pray that you lighten the darkness within the abusers. We pray that they are able turn their lives over to you and end the cycle of abuse. Amen

DAY 35: Spiritual Leaders in our Community

35

DAY 35: Spiritual Leaders in our Community

“Oh Lord, Your Word declares that You are our Good Shepherd. Just as shepherds provides guidance for their sheep, we pray that You, Lord, provide guidance for every leader. I pray that You help them to be more like You. Help them know the condition of their flock. I pray that every leader gives careful attention those they lead, and that the relationship between those they lead will flourish. This is the prayer of our heart. Amen.” Proverb 27:23

Ministers, lay leaders, worship leaders, teachers, youth ministry, and volunteers. Our leaders in our churches need encouragement to hold steady in their call and find God’s peace and rest to keep their spirit refueled for the work ahead.

Lord, we pray for a refueled spirit in our spiritual leaders today. We pray they are each overwhelmed with the spirit as they remember the reason they started this work. We pray for those leaders that are struggling with serving hurting and broken people. We ask that their souls not grow weary. We pray for their families, that they may see them and encourage them when needed. Lord, we pray for the truth they speak. We pray it is received clearly and those words move people to action and toward love. Lord, we pray for the grace you so freely give and the mercy we so eagerly receive. Today we pray that the floodgates are thrown open upon our church leaders as they accept that grace and mercy. Most of all, we pray for rest and mediation for each of these leaders. We pray that the burdens of their ministry fall away and they find peace with you.

DAY 34: Safety in Schools

34

DAY 34: Safety in Schools

God says to “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

In prayer we form a hedge around our children, administration and faculty of the school districts daily. We pray for God protection to be ever present.

Dear heavenly Father, we thank you that your presence is ever felt, your protection is powerful and your position is set firm to guard our children, teachers and faculty members! We pray that the school administration and our entire school district is safe and secure in your loving yet mighty hands each and every day! We thank you in advance for our schools being safe throughout this school year! In the mighty name of Jesus we do pray! Amen!

We thank you for providing jobs in our city to sustain our needs for our families and to economically develop our city! We thank you for giving your people a mind to work and a body to perform the duties needed! You do all things well and we thank you for being the source of all of our resources! DAY 32: Those Battling Presently Incurable Diseases

32

DAY 32: Those Battling Presently Incurable Diseases

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. – Isaiah 53:5

We have known many people who received the word that nothing more could be done for them medically speaking. Some of these dear people are still alive today. May we live each day to its fullest. We know that all of us are going to physically die one day. Give us wisdom to face this challenge. We are all terminal.

Father you taught us while you were on earth to speak to the impossible. Just because a disease seems incurable doesn’t means you are not able. Today we embrace your sovereign understanding that everything in the universe is in Your control. We release the preconceptions we have of how things are supposed to turn out. Help us to see our healing is not a result of Your power, but of Your purpose. Today, Lord we place our lives in the palm of your hands; let us experience peace, love, and contentment there. Give us faith like the Hebrew children in the fire, who did not bow even if God did not bring deliverance. Give us grit like Job to be able to bless Your name in nakedness, and trust God ‘though He slay me.’ Give us grace as you did Paul, when you would not remove the thorn. Give us peace as you gave Christ the night of His passion, when you would not take the cup away. May we walk with You in the fullness of faith, until we come into the fullness of life. In Jesus name Amen.

DAY 31: Those Unreached with the Gospel

31

DAY 31: Those Unreached with the Gospel

And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. – Matthew 24:14

We know that the Word of God will spread throughout the whole world, and we know that we are the ones to take it. We must only share what is dear, our testimony. Stand tall and testify today!

Creator of everything, help us to hear your call to share the gospel. Give us strength we pray, to stand tall and speak from the heart what we know is true. The truth is Your love. Amen
