DAY 14: Military

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” – John 15:13

My father served faithfully during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He never spoke much about his experiences; however, I always felt he was proud of the time he spent in the navy. I remember one time he did say that he sometimes wished he had made a career of serving in the Navy. He never wanted to miss a war movie on TV, no matter what branch was being shown. Dad instilled in me a great appreciation for those servicing in all branches of the military. I still feel a sense of appreciation when I see a man or woman in a military uniform.

Great Commander and Chief of Heaven’s Armies, look down on those servicing in America’s military branches in your tender mercy and grace. Many of these men and women are serving in difficult places where they may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice for this country, just as Your Son made the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Many who return home will carry both outward and inward scars of their time servicing this country; I pray for healing. While they are servicing in faraway places, their families are here praying for their loved one’s safe return. I ask, LORD, that you would bless their families as well. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
