DAY 40

DAY 40:  Sunday, November 9

TOPIC:  Praise to God Who Holds the Future

SCRIPTURE: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 ”16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” (NLT)

OBSERVATION: Trouble and trials will come at us from seemingly every side. But we stand not from the viewpoint of the hopeless but rather the hopeful. Being a Christian is not the end of all struggles or trials, but a door into a new understanding and outlook on the future. In Christ Jesus we can be confident that our struggles are not only developing us, but also refining us into the image of the Son.

PRAYER: Father fix our eyes on the Son who is the perfect image of you and who has provided us His Spirit to lead us in all truth. Holy Spirit remind us of the future hope we have in Jesus Christ and our security in this glory. Give us peace through the uncertainty of life, and refine us to look more and more like your Son. May we fix our eyes on the eternal, and always praise you, the one who holds our tomorrow. In Jesus name, Amen.

DAY 39

DAY 39:  Saturday, November 8

TOPIC:  Addicts and their Families

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 107:13-14 “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress.  He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart.”

OBSERVATION:   Addiction is no respecter of persons.  Anyone can become an addict to damaging behaviors.  It is not the fault of others, family, friends, jobs… yet it affects all of those people and things.  It feels like being in chains and darkness with no hope of escape.  That feeling is shared by everyone in the family.  All are held hostage to the substance the addict is using.  We pray today for the active addict, recovering addicts and all those affected by addiction.  There is hope.  There is freedom.  There is healing.  There is new life for everyone, those using & those affected by the using.

PRAYER:   Father, hear our cry to you.  There are many in our community chained by addiction.  They do and say things they would never do sober.  Please help them to turn toward you.  Hold those who have loved ones who are practicing addicts.  Give them freedom too.  Restore all to your blessed peace and freedom.  Grant them life.  We pray in Jesus, who burst the bonds of death and brings new life on any wanting it.

Thank you for joining in prayer with your neighbors across El Dorado and Union County, Arkansas for the 2025 40 Days of Prayer. Please continue to pray for blessings and unity for our community.

DAY 38

DAY 38:  Friday, November 7

TOPIC:  Homeless in Our Community

SCRIPTURE:  And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”— Matthew 8:20 (ESV)

OBSERVATION: Jesus himself experienced homelessness, showing us that he identifies with those who lack shelter. This reminds us that the homeless are not forgotten or unseen by God. In fact, Christ understands their struggle and calls us to extend compassion, dignity, and care to them.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, we lift up the homeless to You today. Provide them with shelter, warmth, food, and the comfort of Your presence. Let them know they are loved and not forsaken.  Move our hearts to see them as You see them—with compassion and honor. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

DAY 37

DAY 37:  Thursday, November 6

TOPIC:  Foster Care/Adoption

SCRIPTURE: “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” – Psalm 82:3-4

OBSERVATION: God cares for children (the fatherless) who are in places where there is no defense, provision, or protection for them.  Since God cares for these, shouldn’t we?  Our God sends His people to the fatherless to help provide the defense, provision, and protection they need.  Are you willing to be used by God in this way?

PRAYER: Father, thank you for loving us by sending your son, Jesus, to rescue us from our sins so that we may be adopted into your family.  We know that one day you will return to right all the wrongs in this world.  Until that day comes, may we be used as tools to defend, provide, and protect children who are in need of foster care and adoption.  We pray that you would provide families who would answer God’s call to be advocates for these children.  Please help us champion these families and ministries that support foster care and adoption in our community.

Thank you for joining in prayer with your neighbors across El Dorado and Union County, Arkansas for the 2025 40 Days of Prayer. Please continue to pray for blessings and unity for our community.

DAY 36

DAY 36:  Wednesday, November 5    (Prayer Walk 6:30 p.m.)

TOPIC:  Abused and the Abusive

SCRIPTURE: “You keep track of all my sorrows.  You have collected all my tears in your bottle.  You have recorded each one in your book.”  Ps. 56:8

OBSERVATION: All too often those abused suffer alone.  They are not allowed to let anyone know what is actually happening in their life.  The abuser is also alone.  Fear and insecurity drive them to find a place they can feel in control.  Yet, life is out of control.  Only God sees.  He is aware of all that goes on.  He sees you.  He loves you.

PRAYER:  Loving Father, we know you know.  We know Your heart breaks for the tortured soul forcing their will on another.  We know too You are keenly aware of every slap, jab, and joke done at the expense of another.  Please wrap Your protective arms around the abused.  And hold a mirror up to the abusive.  Grant courage for repentance and Your protective peace.  We pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen

Thank you for joining in prayer with your neighbors across El Dorado and Union County, Arkansas for the 2025 40 Days of Prayer. Please continue to pray for blessings and unity for our community.

We are so grateful for your partnership in God’s Kingdom work. May you and yours be blessed.

DAY 35

DAY 35:  Tuesday, November 4

TOPIC:  Spiritual Leaders in our Community

SCRIPTURE: Eph. 4:11-12  “And He gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.”

OBSERVATION:   Jesus has given gifts to the church; they are known as the spiritual leaders.  He is blessing the church with Spirit-filled people to help all to impact our world with His Kingdom.  The Spiritual Leader is one out front, guiding, training, modeling & mentoring each church member.  The church does the ministry of God.  The church, the body of Christ, grows & matures with the help of these leaders.

PRAYER: – Father, we pray for the protection of the spiritual leaders.  We know they each have a target on their backs by the enemy of our souls.  Please have their backs.  Help us to pray daily for our leaders.  Help us to support and encourage and help the leaders as they work to bring about Your will on earth as it is in heaven.  We pray through Jesus.

DAY 34

DAY 34: Monday, November 3

TOPIC:  Local work force/jobs

SCRIPTURE: “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.” – Proverbs 22:29 (NKJV)

OBSERVATION: Sometimes, having lived here all of our lives, we can fail to be thankful for the abundance of opportunities that Union County offers to its citizens. Most of us spend more of our waking hours at our place of employment than our homes. To do that in an atmosphere that is an extension of family is a blessing. Success is not defined by how much money you make or how many things you own. Success is defined by how many lives you touch in a positive way.

PRAYER:   Father, thank you first of all for the abundance and variety of jobs that are available in Union County and beyond for those looking for work. It takes many people with different skills and talents working together as one to have a thriving community. Help us to instill in our children that any honest job that we do to support our families is an honorable position and should be respected by all. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

DAY 33

DAY 33:  Sunday, November 2

TOPIC:  Praise for Our Freedoms and Liberties

SCRIPTURE: Galatians 5: 1 & 13  1” For freedoms Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”   13” For you were called to freedom, brothers.  Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the Flesh, but through love serve one another.”

OBSERVATION:  The sacrifice that was made upon the cross allowed us the opportunity to be freed from our slavery to sin.  This liberation from sin frees us, but not to pursue our old lifestyle.  This liberty we now have came at a high price, to honor that sacrifice and to cling to the promise made that day, we need to live a life of service to man and God.

PRAYER:  All praise to you Father God, the sacrifice you tendered has provided us liberty and freedom hat no mortal man can provide.  We as believers have the opportunity to live without carrying the burden of sin.  Give us the strength and guidance to live our lives in true obedience to your desires and of those of the flesh. Father lead us to serve where we have the talent to do the work you have laid before us, in Jesus name, amen

DAY 32

DAY 32:  Saturday, November 1

TOPIC: Those Battling Serious Illnesses

SCRIPTURE:  “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” – Psalm 46:1-3

OBSERVATION: The Bible shares with us that in this sin-filled world, we will face trouble.   One of the many trials we face is battling serious illnesses. Our passage shares that God is our refuge, protecting us each day.  He is also our strength, empowering us to make it through the day.  He is our ever-present help, meaning he is eager and able to help us during times of crisis.  Even though we go through times of trouble, we do not have to fear because God is with us and will keep us close to Him.

PRAYER: Father, we thank you for always being with us in life, even in times of trouble.  We specifically pray for those who are battling serious illnesses.  We pray that they would find safety in your arms.  We also pray that you would provide the strength that they need to face the difficulties each day.   We pray that they would find comfort and courage in knowing that you are with them, helping them at all times.

DAY 31

DAY 31:  Friday, October 31

TOPIC:  Those Unreached with the Gospel

SCRIPTURE: “For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” Luke 19:10 NLT

OBSERVATION: Jesus came to save the lost, to push back the kingdom of darkness. This must always be at the front of our mind that the whole goal of Jesus’ coming was to set the captive free, to save those who are lost. We must take every opportunity to share the gospel with everyone, especially those whom we know have never heard. One of the greatest advantages we have is simply praying and asking the Holy Spirit to prepare their hearts before we even have a conversation with them.

PRAYER:  Father, we ask that you send out your Holy Spirit to begin to prepare the hearts of those who have not heard the gospel. That you would bind any distractions of the enemy that would keep them from hearing your truth, and they would listen to the Father’s call for them to repent and come home to you, Lord.
