DAY 10: Love and Forgiveness

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.  But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. – Colossians 3:12-14

Forgiving others is not debatable for the believer.  As hard as it may be, we must remember forgiving others is what we do even as Christ forgave us.  Many times, we look for some emotional feeling to verify that we have forgiven, but the reality is, that feeling may not happen.  It is the right thing to do, so we forgive.  Love, also, may not be easy, but it is the bond of perfection.  Think of it as the one thing that holds everything together like glue is a bond.

God of all Creation, today as we come before you, we want to thank you for the forgiveness that is ours because of the Blood of Jesus Christ.  Just as Christ has forgiven us, we choose to forgive others.  We ask you to help us walk in love towards everyone because love holds everything together when it feels like everything is falling apart.  Thank you, Lord, that love is bigger than differences ……religious, political, race, cultural…….and love never fails.  We pray our community would be known by the love that we have for one another.  In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray.  Amen.

DAY 9: Praise of Christ

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19

Isaiah 53:3 describes Jesus as the suffering servant and says that they esteemed him not, they did not see his value or appreciate his worth. Judas sold Jesus out to the Chief Priests for 30 pieces of silver, the price of a slave’s life according to Mosaic Law (Ex. 21:32). We do the same everyday by not seeing what we have been given in the gift of Jesus, and continuing to live out our lives as slaves of sin instead of sons and daughters of God.

Father, we thank you that according to scripture, Jesus is our air, water, food, shelter and clothing; our every physical need. He is every piece of armor in Ephesians 6 that we are to put on. He is the peace that we speak to the storm in Mark 4:39. He is the grace, grace we shout to the temple in Zech. 4:7. He is the binding and loosing agent in Matt. 16:19. Open our eyes to the understanding that if we have Jesus, we have everything. We no longer have to glean the corners of the field or beg for the crumbs from underneath the table. We have a seat at the table, and as the father told the oldest son in Luke 15:31, My son you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. In the Name above all Names we pray, Amen.

DAY 8: Families

One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. – Psalm 145:4 (ESV)

God has designed our faith in Him to be passed down from generation-to-generation. Each generation has a God-given responsibly to tell the next generation about His goodness and greatness. Who do you need to share your faith with today?

Lord, we thank you for the families and children in our community. You created the family and designed it to be the place where faith is passed down from generation to generation. We pray that you would bring healing, protection, and guidance to the families in our community. We pray that our children and teenagers will know Jesus Christ and live for Him. Help each generation in El Dorado point people to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

DAY 7: Marriages

So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate. – Matthew 19:6

God loves marriage because a healthy marriage reflects Christ’s sacrificial love for His people—His bride. Since the Enemy hates the glory of God, it makes sense that he would attack an institution that clearly is supposed to reflect that glory. Our community will only be healthy if we have healthy families. Our families will only be healthy if we have healthy marriages.

God, we ask You to strengthen marriages in our community so that more and more reflect the glory of Your sacrificial love. Please restore broken relationships and protect new marriages. Strengthen Your church so that we will be ready for the coming of Your Son.  Amen.

DAY 6: Revival

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. – Joel 2:28

And it shall come to pass afterward, Afterward. After what?  What brings true revival?  Repentance and Surrender. Real revival, the kind of revival that endures and changes nations, comes when man lets go of his natural tendencies. What if God wants to do something more grand than anything you can comprehend? Will you be willing to surrender your thoughts and ideas? When God pours out His Spirit – that is real revival, and the greatest action we can take toward it is surrender.

Most Gracious Heavenly Father, we thank you that as we become less, you become more. On our knees before your throne, we confess that so many times we have held on too tight and tried to control situations by our own natural tendencies. We open our hands, our hearts, and our minds in surrender to fully embrace all that you want to do. Pour out your Spirit, Father. May this city be blessed by the power of your love, In the Name of Jesus! Amen

DAY 5: Peace in our World

I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.   – Psalm 121:1-2

It seems that it is becoming more difficult to watch the world news these days. There is so much strife in our world, our country, our community. I sometimes ask myself if it is possible to have peace in the world. And then I read the words in Psalms. We are reassured that our help comes from God. And we know that He is indeed enough. He is the Creator, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace!

Lord, we thank you for the world that you have created and for the beauty that we find on it. We praise you that you are the Mighty God and are thankful that we can depend on you to provide for all our needs. We pray that you will fill us with your spirit so that your love is shown. Lord, we pray that you grant peace to our hearts so that we can share your love to others and pray that your peace is then shared to all throughout the world.

DAY 4: Peace in our Nation

The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.  – James 5:16b

We may look at our nation and think that the problems we see are too great for us do anything that will make a difference; but the word of God clearly states that prayer holds power and will produce results.  Pray for our nation and remember that God is in control.

Heavenly Father, we come to you today giving thanks for the many freedoms we are allowed in this country.  We know that we have failed You with the sin in our hearts, minds and actions and for that we are deeply sorry.  Thank you for the sending Jesus to die in our place so we can have life eternal. We ask that you be with our nation.  Place a heavy burden on the hearts of those who are lost to turn to You.  Open the eyes of those who belong to the family of believers to see needs we can meet, hearts we can touch, and ways we can serve others.  Thank you for being the One who is fully in control of our nation.  We pray that you give wisdom and discernment to those in leadership.  We pray for peace.  Amen.

DAY 3: Peace in our Community

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor, He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted. To preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who oppressed, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. – Luke 4: 18-19

Jesus came we may proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to all humanity. He instructs us to not grow weary in well-doing, and to esteem others over ourselves. This is our reasonable service.

Our heavenly Father, we humble ourselves before your mighty hand. We exalt your name and magnify your Holy name. We pray for a move of God throughout our city and our county. We need you in our churches, in our schools, and our homes, more than ever before. Lord, have mercy, please have mercy. Empower us with your Holy Spirit, that we may reflect you in everything we do and say. In Jesus’ name we pray! Amen!

DAY 2: Praise of God

I will extol, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. – Psalms 145:1-3

If you have a close relationship with God and you communicate with God often each day, you will recognize the blessings and care he gives you. You will want to praise him continually for the richness in your life.  God loves to be praised for his grace, kindness, and love for those who love him.

Father in heaven, we praise you for your love for us, your grace, and your kindness. We praise you for all your great deeds and provisions for those who love you. Always keep us close to you and remind us of our dependence on you. Through Jesus we pray these things. Amen.

DAY 1: Thankful for the Avenue of Prayer

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; “  – Philippians 4:6 NKJV

The times in which we live are times of uncertainty in every area of life. Threats of new strains of Covid, inflation in the market place, and unrest about coming elections are just a few things to deal with. This scripture tells us we can pray about everything. Our Heavenly Father is always ready to hear our requests. What a joy and delight is ours as we come into His presence in our time of need.

Merciful Father, thank you for the avenue of prayer that you have given unto us. With much gratitude we express thanks that you have made prayer the way for mankind to communicate with you anytime, anywhere. Thank you that when we pray, Heaven is at attention. As we come before you in these forty days of prayer, united as your children, we are thankful and grateful that you hear us. And we know, if you hear us, we have the petitions we desire of you! We pray in the beloved name of Jesus our Savior. Amen
