DAY 40: Praise to God Who Holds the Future

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. – Proverbs 19:21

The future plans and purposes of God will be fulfilled. This is our promise, our hope, and our present praise for a future reality.

Sovereign Lord, we praise You, the God whose future plans and purposes will prevail! We choose to praise You for what we do not yet see. Remove grumbling and complaining from our hearts and lips, and may Your Spirit fill our mouths with wondrous praise and adoration to the God who holds the future in His hands. To God be all the glory, honor, and praise! In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.

DAY 39: Addicts and their Families

Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord! – Psalms 31:24

Helplessness and hopelessness fill the lives of many addicts and their families. The addict is powerless to stop on their own, and the family can do nothing to change that. Love is painful in these situations. Sometimes life is too hard to face, and the terrible alternative is chosen.

Father, intervene. Step into the life of the addict and do whatever it takes for them to hit bottom. Help them find their way to you. Also, step into the life of the family. Hold them close. Gather support around them. Calm their fears and free them from undeserved guilt. Help all to trust your faithfulness. We pray this in Jesus name, Amen.

DAY 38: Homeless in Our Community

Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God. – Proverbs 14:31

The Bible has much to say about caring for the poor, needy, and the homeless. We must remember it is not what we give or how much we give, but that we give. God’s word teaches us that we honor God, and He is most pleased when we tend to the needs of the homeless in our community.

Father, may we never be so consumed with our own interests that we neglect the interests of others in need. Father, may we specifically seek out opportunities to serve the homeless in our community. Father, may you give us the opportunity to be a light, showing compassion to those in need. Father, bless the people we serve and let us leave them better than we found them.

DAY 37: Foster Care/Adoption

Father to the fatherless, defender of widows – this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. – Psalm 68:5-6a

God becomes a fiercely devoted father to those who are orphaned. What is His solution to those who are lonely? Families. He has called the family of God to become the family of the orphaned. These families are to provide stability, love, and values to those who are lonely, raising them up to be mighty men and women of God who will then become a family to others who need one. Let us say “yes” to God and be that family.

God, we pray together for the orphans in El Dorado. We ask that you, Father in Heaven, would put them under your special care and protection. Stir up the hearts of your people to become families for the lonely. Bless them and strengthen them as they give you their “yes.” We also ask that you put under your care those working for the cause of the orphaned, such as The Call.

DAY 36: Abused and the Abusive

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. – Psalm 147:3

Today, we are mindful of those who have suffered abuse, often burdened with shame, fear, and anger. It’s crucial to provide them a safe space for healing. We must also consider the abusers, understanding that addressing their underlying issues is essential for breaking the cycle of harm.

Father, we lift those who have been abused—those feeling isolated, silenced, and afraid. Grant them the courage and strength to seek help, knowing that only You can fully heal them. Use us as instruments of Your love and care in their healing journey. We also pray for their abusers: You, as the true light, please illuminate the darkness within them and guide them to turn their lives over to You, breaking the cycle of abuse. Amen.

DAY 35: Spiritual Leaders in our Community

Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach. – 1 Timothy 3:1-2

Noble, above reproach, faithful, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, and able to teach are the characteristics of God’s chosen leaders. Let us pray that our community’s spiritual leaders fully embody these attributes.

Chief Sheppard, may the spiritual leaders of this community fear God and fully embrace the characteristics laid out in the scripture above. We pray that they receive the grace to fully embody these attributes and represent Your leadership well. May repentance be found in their failures, and may fruitful reward be found in their adherence to Your ways. We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

DAY 34: Praise for Our Freedoms and Liberties

So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.  – John 8:36

We are blessed to live in a country that provides its citizens with the freedoms that we enjoy here in the United States. May we never take for granted the freedoms and liberties that are afforded to us and those who have given their lives to provide these freedoms for us. May we also realize that the only true freedom is freedom of the soul and does not come from government or legislation, but only from the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross.

Father, thank you for allowing me to live in a country that is the land of the free and the home of the brave. Help me to never take that for granted! I pray for those who live in a free country but are still bound by their sins. Show them that Jesus is the only One who can truly set them free!

DAY 33: Local Work Force/Jobs

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:17

I heard “work hard” many times as a youth from many different people. “Do your very best,” I heard many times as well. If we are of working age, let’s give thanks to God for our jobs. If we are in our retirement years, give thanks for the health to work 30, 40, or 50 years! Remember to work hard and do so with all your heart, even for the mundane tasks. Pray for the safety of our local workforce and jobs for those who are searching for gainful employment.

Our Heavenly Father, thank you for the blessing to call on you at any time. I pray your richest blessings upon our local workforce. Equip them to do their work with all their heart, even in the ho-hum tasks. Grant each with safety as they travel to their job, while they are at work, and as they return home. I pray you will bless those who may be searching for a job, that you will open a door for them to walk through in your perfect timing. Thank you for the cross, thank you for the blood, and thank you for your provisions. In your Son’s name, I pray, Amen.

DAY 32: Those Battling Presently Incurable Diseases

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases. – Psalm 103:2-3

God is a healer. Live open to His many methods of administering his healing. While we are believing God for the healing of the impossible, we can rest in His sufficient grace for the moment.

Father, we are so grateful for the measure of health we are enjoying. We acknowledge your grace, which is sufficient for today. We believe wholeness is your desire and our destiny. We declare by the stripes of Jesus we are healed. We receive health and healing through any method you choose for us. In Jesus Name, Amen.

DAY 31: Those Unreached with the Gospel

For when one says, ‘I follow Paul,’ and another, ‘I follow Apollos,’ are you not being merely human?  What then is Apollos?  What is Paul?  Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each.  I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.  So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. – 1 Corinthians 3:4-7

We believers can think it is all about us. We want a good following and a large church. We can find our validation in how many people we’ve led to Christ. In reality, we don’t have the power to lead anyone to Christ. God moves in partnership with our efforts to open hearts in response to Jesus. It is about God opening the hearts of non-believers.

Lord, please open the hearts of non-believers. Work in us to not be distracted with our pride but to seek and serve those lost. Grant them the opportunity through us to come to know Jesus. We pray in Jesus’ name.
