Day 24: Police officers

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf and give thanks for them.  Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.  This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. – 1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NLT)

Reflect |  Here we have more than a suggestion, it’s actually a command!  And not only is it a command, but it’s a priority given to believers.  We’re admonished to pray for all people, and specifically for kings and for all who are in authority.  The policemen of our community are some of those in authority.  Three things we’re told…. ask God to help them, intercede for them, and give thanks for them.  It pleases God and blesses us with peaceful lives.

Pray | Our Father in Heaven, we pray today for the servants of our community, our policemen.  We ask you God to help them in every way.  Direct them, keep them safe, high above evil, and free from harm.  Cause them to be in the right place at the right time.  We pray for their safety, summoning the ministering spirits, the heavenly host of Angelic protection to be round about them today.  Just as the mountains are about Jerusalem, you God, are round about your people, our policemen in El Dorado, AR.  We are thankful for these men and women who have taken their places in our community to promote safety and peace.  We count it a privilege to pray for them today and every day.  Thank you, Father, Amen!

Day 23: Pray for our firefighters

5bac717790e570669db449ae3c481e3b

If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ” -Peter 4:11

Reflect | We are so blessed to have men and women who work diligently for our safety and well-being, even when their jobs are difficult and often thankless. We need to remember to thank these brave firefighters for their sacrifice and service to our community.

Pray | Heavenly Father, we humbly seek your protection and blessing on these brave men and women who selflessly give of themselves to protect and strengthen our community. Give them the strength that only You provide so that as they serve, You will be honored. Help them to dwell in Your shadow. May You always be their refuge in difficult situations. May they trust in You completely, moment by moment. Show them Your power when they find themselves in unsafe situations. Keep them safe for the glory of Your name!

Day 22: Our judges and the judicial system

I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father would give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. -Ephesians 1:17

Reflect |  We hear bickering and may even participate in debates or arguments about conservative and liberal judges. How about we pray for judges to have the mind and attitude of Christ (Philippians 2:5), and to have wisdom from above (James 1:5). That is much more valuable than a conservative or liberal label. Let’s pray for them to fly the Jesus flag in their hearts which will guide their decisions. If a follower of Jesus, our main citizenship is in heaven, and we should desire judges who are ambassadors for Christ.

Pray | O God, Proverbs says you can direct the heart of a king like a river, sending it any way you choose. We ask that You either appoint Christ-followers as judges, or direct non-believing judges’ hearts to make decisions based on Your ways, not the ways of our broken world system.  We trust You in this and join past believers in believing You can fix this situation of judicial decisions going against Your ways. We also join Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in saying that even if You choose not to fix this, we will never bow the knee to any but You.

Day 21: Kids in foster care

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us[a] for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. -Ephesians 1:3-6

Reflect | In Arkansas there are over 3,500 children in foster care. These children, for many different reasons, have been separated from their parents for at least a brief time. It is sad that these kids have been separated from their parents, but it gives us a unique chance to impact that child’s life for eternity. As Christians, we can relate in a spiritual sense because we were all once orphans, until God brought us into His family.

Pray | Father God, thank you for calling us your children. We pray that you would raise up families across the state of Arkansas to foster these children in need. We pray that you would use ministries like The Call to train and equip these families. We pray that you would use them to minister to the community and show the love of Christ to the children in our foster care system. We pray that these children would see the love of Christ through them and be forever changed by the Gospel.

Day 20: Praise of the Holy Spirit

And now this Good News has been announced to you by those who preached in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. It is all so wonderful that even the angels are eagerly watching these things happen. – 1 Peter 1:12 (NLT)

Reflect | The wonder of the Gospel, fully alive and effective because of the power of the Holy Spirit, is not limited to humanity. Its awe is so inspiring and mysterious that even the angels are intrigued. Throughout the Scriptures, the Spirit has given life, and all creation, heaven and earth, has marveled.

Pray | Holy Spirit, may we have the privilege of being caught up in the awe and wonder of your mysteries and revelation. May it produce in us the fear of the Lord and the edification of our spirit walk. May the body of Christ be more intrigued by the Holy Spirit than angels. Create in us pure hearts that pray as David prayed, “Do not banish me from your presence and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.” Would to God, that our worship would appropriately, demonstrate the value we have placed in our lives for your precious Holy Spirit. Amen.

Day 19: Nonprofit agencies making a difference in our community

I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. – Matthew 25:36 (NIV)

Reflect | We are greatly blessed to have many caring nonprofit organizations in our community who are ministering to the needs of others.

Pray | Father, we ask that you provide the financial means for the nonprofits to continue operating in their individual ministries.  Thank you for people who say, “Hear Am I Lord, Send Me!”

Thank you, God, for people who serve our community!  Amen!

Day 18: Race relations and unity in our community

How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!  For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron’s head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe.  Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion.  And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting. -Psalm 133:1-3 (NLT)

Reflect |  According to Webster’s, harmony is the combination of simultaneously sounded musical notes to produce chords and chord progressions having a pleasing effect.  Our community is a diversity of cultures, races, and beliefs, but when we work together, even though we have many differences, it’s like musical harmony, when many sounds together produce a pleasant symphony.

Pray | Father in Heaven, breathe into the hearts of the people of our community to learn the benefit of working together.  Let us focus on the reality of our similar desires of peace and harmony, rather than the trivialities of our differences.  Open our eyes to see that Your blessing is pronounced as we turn away from what divides us.  Let us become like-minded, being one in spirit and in purpose.  Amen!

Day 17: Unity among all our congregations

Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?  Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. -Philippians 2:1-2  NLT

Reflect |  Notice that in these 2 verses, our attention is drawn to the amazing truth, that as believers, we belong to Christ.  Because of this, our hearts should be tender, compassionate, and even agreeable!  This is an outstanding advantage for our community since the opportunities for Christ-like influence are in abundance as are the number of congregations in our town!

Pray | Heavenly Father, today we come boldly to the throne of grace in our time of need.   We pray for our congregations to rise up and fight in the spirit for those among us who are needy.  Let us step forward and become that mighty army of believers, standing side by side, striving with a single mind purpose for the Gospel’s sake.   Let us be relentless in prayer as we build together in our community.  Acts 1:14 “They all met together and were constantly united in prayer…………….”  Birth desire in our congregations to meet together and be constantly united in prayer.  Thank you, Father, for we know this would be your desire too!  In Jesus’ precious, powerful name, Amen!!

Day 16: Our student athletes (Fields of Faith)

Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. -1 Timothy 4:12

Reflect | In many instances, the young in our country are looked on in a negative manner. I am proud to know, for a fact, there are many still sharing the Light of the world to those around them! Our school halls are full of students searching for answers, and there are students being an example of Christ in all that they do. Please remember these students as they lead on their campuses, homes, and communities. Also pray that the students searching for answers see the Light and follow those examples! Fellowship of Christian Athletes is hosting Fields of Faith tonight at 7 PM at Memorial Stadium. Students and coaches from our area campuses will share their stories of how God has impacted their lives and how they strive to be positive leaders and examples on their campuses. Please come tonight to hear how God is working in our schools!

Pray | Heavenly Father, the youth of our country are our future. May I be the example to them that leads them to a Godly way of life. As they lead on their campuses, I pray that they keep their eyes and hearts focused on You and not the world. As they grow into our leaders, I pray they are an example to all and lead others to You. We ask your blessings on Fields of Faith and that many will hear your Word and come to know You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 15: Local business leaders

A person should think of us in this way: as servants of Christ and managers of the mysteries of God. 2 In this regard, it is required that managers be found faithful. -1 Corinthians 4:1-2 (CSB)

Reflect | My father owned an office supply business in the Houston area until he passed away in 2007. He began this business in 1977 with a desire to help others succeed. He sold office products along with the motivation messages for the purpose of inspiration. His profits came through the sale of office products, but he never lost his desire to help others succeed. He remained faithful to his God in seeking to be a helpful servant to all of his customers.

Pray | Heavenly Father, I pray for our local business owners. May each one be faithful to the call to serve our community. Protect and provide for all their needs. Bless them with an abundance where they can serve our community in greater ways.
