DAY 18: Local Congregations and Unity Among Them
“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in UNITY! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the LORD has COMMANDED the BLESSINGS, life forevermore.” – Psalm 133:1-3
What is unity? 1) Not the absence of difference, but the absence of division. Mark 3:25 tells us that a house divided against itself cannot stand. If we are divided, we are already defeated. 2) Unity is health and harmony in relationships. We are not in competition, but on the same team. We would see people differently if we saw them as the spiritual beings they are and the valuable people they are to God. 3) Unity is clear and common purpose. We will see our city and community changed when we come together for the common purpose of Christ.
God, today as we pray for unity in the congregations of our community, we are not asking for sameness but being on the same page. Father, help us to lay aside our selfish ambitions and contend for UNITY in our local church bodies. We ask all of this in the awesome name of Jesus. Amen!
